St. Michaels 2-15, Summerhill 1-6,
St. Michaels booked themselves a place in the Coca-Cola IFC semi-finals as they had it all their own way in Summerhill on Monday evening last and apart for a minor glitch in the third quarter when they allowed the home side cut the deficit to three points they were never really in trouble.
The game was as good as over at the interval when they led by 1-8 to 0-1, the goal had come from wing half forward Marion Farrelly on six minutes just after Sharon Callaghan had opened the scoring with a fine point. Further points from Aisleen Harte 0-3, Ella Reilly 0-2 and 0-1 each from Megan O'Brien and Sharon Callaghan completed the scoring in that opening period.
Lorraine Curtis pulled off a brilliant save on 25 minutes to deny the home side who had earlier opened their scoring with a point after 12 minutes.
But for the opening point from Sharon Callaghan on 33 minutes the third quarter all belonged to Summerhill as they out scored the visitors 1-5 to 0-1 to cut the deficit to 3 points, their goal coming from a penalty after 39 minutes.
St. Michaels regained their composure when Alicia Curtis split the posts on 48 minutes and they held the home side scoreless for the remaining 12 minutes as points followed from Sinéad McCormack 0-3, O'Brien and Callaghan 0-1 each and a free taken by McCormack sailed over everyone to the back of the net on 55 minutes for a well deserved victory. Best for St. Michaels were Lorraine Curtis, Elaine Coyne, Sinéad McCormack and Sharon Callaghan.
