FL Div 1: First defeat for Dunshaughlin

July 24, 2015

Dunshaughlin's Cathal O'Dwyer

Summerhill 0-16 Dunshaughlin 0-13

An ability to take scores and to score at the right time was all the difference in Summerhill this evening as the home side were able to do what no other team in Meath have done this year in the league as Dunshaughlin suffered their first defeat of the year. Summerhill started the more brightly of the two teams with them getting two scores on the scoreboard in the first 6 mins with Dunshaughlin having to wait for their first coming courtesy of a fine Trevor Dowd point that was well setup by Ray Maloney. It was all Summerhll in the first 15 mins that seen the home sides purple patch account for four unanswered points before Dunshaughlin were to get off the mark again after 20 mins following a converted Cathal O'Dwyer free after the onrushing Niall Murphy was fouled.  Another free from Cathal O'Dwyer 2 mins later raised the white flag for the black and amber before Summerhill got their last score of the half after 25 mins to have them 3 points to the good and in control.

Dunshaughlin to their credit never panicked despite them not playing to their full potential and can thank their experienced centre forward Trevor Dowd for clawing them back into the match with the man from Rathhill setting up the now customary Tadhg O'Dushlaine score after 26 mins with Dowd getting on the scoreboard twice on the 27th and 28th minutes who was well assisted from Conor Devereux and Ben Duggan to draw the game level as Tyrone native Patrick Neilis blew for halftime. Summerhill were to draw first blood as the second half commenced with them getting a point after 31 mins but some nice build up play from Dunshaughlin had Conor Devereux fouled which seen Cathal O'Dwyer convert for Dunshaughlin on 32 mins to level the game once again. This sadly for Dunshaughlin was to be their last score for another 15 mins that seen Summerhill get four answered points. Dunshaughlin were not prepared to give up without a fight and wre boosted from a Cathal O'Dwyer point from play after 46 mins and a Conor Devereux point two mins  later now  just had two points between the teams  with 12 mins remaining.

Summerhill did manage though  to break the Dunshaughlin scoring dominance after 50 mins to put a goal yet again between the teams  and looked dangerous every time they passed the Dunshaughlin 45. It seemed every time Dunshaughlin were finding a way back into the game Summerhill were able to get a vital score to stay ahead and never trailed in this game and this was demonstrated when three  beautifully converted Cathal O'Dwyer frees following fouls on Ray Maloney, Fergus Toolan and Trevor Dowd were cancelled out by Summerhill  that seen them run out by three point winners. Having already booked their place in the league final Dunshaughlin maybe this evening were a bit complacent but nothing can be taken away from Summerhill who deserved the two points.  The show must go on for now with a crucial upcoming three weeks in store as championship football looms. Best for Dunshaughlin were Mark Devaney, Caoimhin King, Niall Murphy,Trevor Dowd and Cathal O'Dwyer.
