Meath managers Mick O'Dowd and Martin Ennis

Meath county board have recommended that Mick O'Dowd be appointed senior football manager into a fourth season with the Royal County.

Last night the board's management committee unanimously voted to put O'Dowd's name forward to delegates to remain in his current role until 2017, with review after the completion of the 2016 season.

The Skryne club man has come under some heavy fire as of late following the Royals' collapse against neighbours Westmeath in the Leinster SFC semi-final, giving the Lake County its first championship victory over its old rivals. Defeat to Tyrone in the qualifiers last Saturday week meant another early All-Ireland exit for O'Dowd's charges.

Selector Sean Kelly confirmed yesterday he has vacated his role with the team, fuelling further speculation over O'Dowd's future, with his fate now left in the hands of the county's clubs when they convene on August 10th.

On the night, Meath's clubs will also vote on whether or not to reinstate senior hurling boss Martin Ennis, who succeeded Cillian Farrell at the end of 2014, after a mixed campaign which earned them the Kehoe Cup and a Christy Ring Cup exit to Kildare at the semi-final stage.
