AFL4: four goal Kilbride grab the points

July 06, 2015

Kilbride 4-6
Moylagh 0-10

Kilbride made the long journey to North Meath on Sunday morning in the hope of continuing the form shown in their last outing against Walterstown.

Missing a number of key players  due to injury & holidays, the visiting team made a sluggish start & found themselves 2 points down after 5 minutes. In truth, Kilbride were struggling to get into the Moylagh half but on 7 minutes Conor Storey split the posts with an excellent finish after a well worked team move. That score gave Kilbride a boost and with the next attack a high ball was broken down by Conor Doyle and the on rushing Jonny McIvor finished the ball to the Moylagh net. The teams exchanged a couple of scores each and also both teams were guilty of missing chances but Kilbride spurned a number of easy chances & found themselves 2 points down at half time.

The second half saw a swing in momentum in the travelling teams favour as Kilbride started well & played as more of a team. A full blooded contest ensued with both teams going hell for leather, which gave the local & travelling support great entertainment. Kilbride stretched their lead with a goal from the ageless Brian White & soon after, with the home team trailing by 2 points, Moylagh were awarded a penalty which was expertly saved by long serving custodian Emmet Farrell. Again the away team were buoyed by the save and defended their lead gallantly with all 6 defenders putting their bodies on the line. With Moylagh pushing hard, gaps appeared in their defence and Kilbride killed off the game with another goal from McIvor and a point from Conor Doyle. Not to be out done by the younger players on the team, Ross Tormey added a 4th goal just before the end.

On the balance of play, Kilbride deserved to come away with the 2 points after such a titanic battle.

Best for the away team was John Smith, Peter Roche, Stephen Walsh, Craig Sheridan & Jonny McIvor. Brian White, Conor Story & Ollie Nolan also showed well for the visitors.
