AFL3: Syddan loss scuppers promotion bid

July 06, 2015

Syddan's Jack Reid

MEATH HILL 1-14
SYDDAN 1-9

SYDDAN kissed their promotion hopes goodbye in a match that was marred by a serious leg injury to fullback Jack Reid at Ludlow Park.

The game was held up for three quarters of an hour close to half-time as an ambulance was summoned to take the injured player to hospital.

The hosts produced very poor fare throughout the first half which was 23 minutes old before James Farrelly opened his sides account.

Syddan's only other point of the half came from a Daire Rowe free and at half-time Meath Hill enjoyed a comfortable 1-6 to 0-2 advantage.

Ian Curran had the home side off the mark in the second half with a point within 20 seconds of the restart but it wasn't until Curran found the net on 41 minutes that Syddan began to pose a serious threat.

Points from Paddy Farrelly, Luke Halpenny and Daire and Cormac Rowe eventually reduced the deficit to two points with a little over 10 minutes remaining.

Syddan then squandered a number of chances before Meath Hill re-established their superiority with four successive points to stretch the lead back out to six.

Mark Fedigan had a late Syddan point but Meath Hill ended worthy winners.
