SHC: Dunboyne deliver second brace of points

Dunboyne's Stephen Moran

Dunboyne 2-18 Longwood 0-10

Dunboyne delivered their second win in the SHC Group A with a dozen points to spare over Longwood at Trim on Tuesday evening.

This fixture was in marked contrast to last year's SHC quarter-final meeting between the sides when Dunboyne advanced narrowly having forced extra time.

John Gorry's men made most of the running here and never looked in danger after Neil Hackett netted in the 33rd minute following Stephen Moran's cross.

That left it 1-9 to 0-7. Dunboyne doubled their tally thereafter while Longwood managed just three further scores.

It made it two wins from two for Dunboyne with a combined points difference of 24. Longwood lost to Kiltale first time out and face a battle to reach the business end again this time.

Longwood didn't have the services of the injured duo Anthony Healy and Aaron Ennis from last year's side. The latter in charge here in a caretaker role.

Neil Hackett topped his tally in last year's meeting by one point with 1-8 here. Five points were posted from placed balls.

Sean McGrath's height was an asset to Dunboyne both at midfield and later at full-forward from where he scored 1-1 in the second-half.

Apart from providing the assist for Hackett's goal, Stephen Moran was denied a three-pointer by a fine save from Longwood 'keeper Mick Healy. Hackett landed the subsequent 65 to leave double scores in it, 1-11 to 0-7.

Two days after his Croke Park exertions, Mick Burke wasn't at his most influential here. However, he supplied a deft assist for Mark Lynch's 43rd minute score.

It proved to be Longwood's penultimate point. Lynch also completed his side's tally to leave it 1-15 to 0-10 after 53 minutes.

Dunboyne closed out matters on a fine evening with an unanswered 1-3. Stephen Moran providing the assist for McGrath's goal. The game's final score.

Longwood's Ryan Moore opened the scoring in the first minute. Scores were tied twice in the opening 10 minutes. Hackett's first score (a pointed fifth minute free) earned Dunboyne a lead they took to the end.

Before the throw-in all present observed a respectful silence in memory of Laura Carty, Dunderry.
