BFL1: Dunshaughlin fall to Duleek/Bell comeback

May 20, 2015

Dunshaughlin keeper Ronan Gogan

Dunshaughlin 1-12
Duleek Bellewstown 2-10

It was very much a game of two halves in this Div 1 B league clash played in non-ideal conditions on Tuesday evening in Dunshaughlin.

Dunshaughlin welcomed back veteran goalkeeper Ronan Gogan who officially came out of retirement like Dino Zoff in 1982 but were forced to start without Niall Murphy who was suffering from inconclusive influenza like symptoms. The black and amber raced were quicker out of the blocks and were 2 points to the good after two mins courtesy of a Marty Reilly free and Paddy McHale point from play. A converted Duleek Bellewstown penalty two mins later put them in front but 3 unanswered points from Martin Reilly who has been in a rich vein of form the past month with  two of these points from frees and another a  fine long range effort  cancelled out the Duleek Bellewstown penalty and had Dunshaughlin looking good.  A Dunshaughlin goal by fox in the box Brendan Duggan after some good work from Keith Rooney had the black and amber now leading by 6 points  before Duleek Bellewstown pulled a point back after 16 mins. A great team  score  that started in the Dunshaughlin full back line courtesy of Paul Wash resulted in Niall Byrne punching the ball over the bar before Keith Rooney was to get the score of the game for Dunshaughlin with the black belt in karate scoring a point off his left foot to have Dunshughlin in cruise control as half time approached. Another Duleek Bellewstown point ensured they were holding on despite being against the ropes with Dunshaughlin having the final say in the half with another Paddy McHale and Marty Reilly point to have them leading by 7 points as Walterstown official Jack Gordon blew for half time.

The second half commenced with Duleek Bellewstown making a fine start with them getting an unanswered 1-03 in the first 10 mins to now have the momentum very much in their favour with Dunshaughlin guilty of some erratic passing and decision making that they were ultimately going to pay the price for. A point from midfielder Duncan Geraghty finally
got Dunshauhglin off the mark in the second half after 40 mins after some fine work from John Wall but Duleek Bellewstown showed great character as they did all evening to score another 3 unanswered points with their stand out full forward pulling all the strings and giving an exhibition on modern day full forward play. A fine Martin Reilly score wide on the right gave Dunshaughlin some hope with 5 mins to go and another Duncan Geraghty point with a minute to go brought the game back to a 1 point lead for Duleek Bellewstown. However the men from east Meath were to hand on and secure 2 valuable points with Dunshaughlin ruing some poor decision making in front of goal and some sloppy passing in a game they felt they left behind.
