Camogie: Dunboyne impress against Na Fianna

May 20, 2015

Dunboyne's Sinead Hackett

Dunboyne 2-09
Na Fianna 0-04

Despite the rain earlier in the day, Round 4 of the Senior Camogie Championship between Dunboyne and Na Fianna took place in almost ideal conditions apart from a strong cross field breeze.

An uninspiring start by Dunboyne saw Na Fianna go ahead early in the match with 2 unanswered points. Sinead Hackett got the home side settled after 6 mins with a lovely score from play. With stand out performances from Fiona O' Neil, playing solidly in the half back line, and the midfield pairing of the Coyne sisters Amy and Chloe, Dunboyne managed to get themselves together and  went in 4 points ahead at half-time with a scoreline of 1-04 to 0-03.

The second half saw a strong show of force from the Dunboyne backs, in particular Ellen Burke and Maeve Clince, that kept the previously unbeaten Na Fianna team to only one second half score. But it was several outstanding saves from goalkeeper Siobhan Synan, which allowed Dunboyne to maintain the upper hand in this tightly fought contest. Despite the strong wind, Dunboyne managed to score 1-05 in the second half with scores from Hackett, Aoife Thompson, Bronagh Moran and Ais Garvey. Na Fianna moved their star player Claire Coffey  into full forward, in the hope of getting a few last minute goals, to keep their unbeaten run alive.  However, the Dunboyne back lines kept working hard until the final whistle and the game ended Dunboyne 2-09 Na Fianna 0-04.

The camogiers have a break in championship now for a while, but look forward to trying to improve on this win with games in both the league and newly established summer league competitions.
