May 19, 2015

Robbie Briody St Michaels gains possession against Dunboyne during the B FL game in Carlanstown.

St. Michaels 2-14, St. Peters Dunboyne 0-10

St. Michaels recovered from their defeat to Trim earlier in the week to record this comprehensive 10 point victory over visitors St. Peters Dunboyne in Carlanstown on Saturday evening last. St. Michaels who had Martin O'Connell between the posts for the opening half started the brightest and right from the throw in Ciaran Lynch opened his side's account with a point from play inside the first 20 seconds, they built on this opener with a further point from a Lynch free and a Martin Dawson effort from open play. Dunboyne added two from frees in a four minute spell midway through the opening quarter but they failed to score again until the 24 minute by which time St. Michaels were 0-6 to 0-3 up after points from Ciaran Lynch 0-2 and Ben Tobin 0-1, Dunboyne reduced the deficit by one a minute later but Tobin was on hand to send over from a free after Dawson was dragged down. Lynch grabbed his fifth point of the half in injury time to put his side into a 0-8 to 0-5 half time lead.

St. Peters Dunboyne reduced the deficit to a single point in the opening three minutes of the second half however two points from Ciaran Lynch restored his sides advantage and when a Tobin effort came off the crossbar Thomas O'Brien acted quickest to send it to the back of the net to put his side 1-10 to 0-7 ahead on 37 minutes. Ben Tobin added another point on 40 minutes, the visitors replied with 3 unanswered points which proved to be their last scores of the match as they had to finish the remaining 10 minutes of the match with 13 men after two of their players got injured and they had no replacements. Shane McDonnell added 1-3 in the final 10 minutes to complete the scoring for St. Michaels, the goal coming from a penalty kick after he was brought down in the square.
