Ratoath celebrate

Ratoath 6-11
Moynalvey 2-2

Ratoath ladies came away as league champions in what was a hard fought match played in Rathcairn. The teams met in the final round of the league which resulted in a draw, which left nothing between the teams going into this match.

Ratoath began the first half extremely well with their opening score coming from a free by Katie Callaghan in the second minute. Ratoath's teamwork was noticeable and this was particularly evident in one of the next points they kicked, with Emma Mc Gill, Ellie O Neill and Emer Mc Entee working the ball up the pitch with the score coming from Adrienne Mc Cann. Moynalvey's forwards did respond though as they attacked in numbers, moving the ball quickly up the field resulting in their first point followed by a goal shortly after from a penalty. Further points from Callaghan (2), Clara O Neill and Sarah Mc Nerney and a goal from Aine Mc Nerney left the Ratoath side ahead at half time by 8 points.
Half time score: Ratoath 2-6 , Moynalvey 1-1.

Ratoath ,playing with a slight wind behind their backs in the second half, continued to open up the Moynalvey defence with well taken scores from Mc Gill and Clara O Neill, and a goal finished by Eilish Quinn. Moynalvey remained resolute though and put Ratoath's backs under pressure which resulted in them conceding another penalty which Moynalvey dispatched to the net. With Ratoath making a positional change and Rebecca McIntyre going to the edge of the square, two quick balls went into her and she found the net twice in the space of 2 minutes. Another two points from Eilish Quinn added to the scoring streak for the Ratoath Ladies. Corner back Louise Gaffney then found the net in the 27th minute from what was a superb move starting at the other end of the pitch culminating in a fantastic finish by Gaffney. Ratoath eventually ran out winners by 21 points with Aine McNerney getting the final point in the 3rd minute of stoppage time

This was a tough match for both teams with the skill level on show excellent. The score didn't reflect the battle that Moynalvey put up against the Ratoath ladies. Ratoath had a super all round team performance but player of the match went to Katie Callaghan. Ratoath now look to prepare for the upcoming Intermediate Championship which is just 5 weeks away.
