St. Michaels 1-6, Trim 3-9

A poor second half display by St. Michaels proved costly as a scoring spurt in the third quarter which yielded 2-1 earned the home side the points in a wet and windy Trim on Monday evening. An evenly contested opening half which was level on three occasions saw the teams run to the dressing rooms at the interval for shelter from the constant rain with Trim holding a slender one point lead, 1-5 to 1-4.

Both sides traded 2 points apiece in the opening 12 minutes with Darren O'Connell and Johnny Reilly on target for St. Michaels, then on 13 minutes an alert Bernard O'Brien got on the end of an in-coming ball to finish to the back of the net for his sides only major. St. Michaels built on that goal when Ben Tobin converted a free to forge 4 points clear, but Trim responded a minute later with their opening goal which was quickly followed by two pointed frees to go in front, another Tobin free levelled the match but Trim fired over the closing point of the half to go in one in front at the break having had the advantage of a strong wind in those opening 30 minutes.

Trim extended that lead in the opening minute of the second half with their second major, they added a further 1-3 as St. Michaels tried to respond but could only manage a further two points for the entire second half.
