HL2A: Ratoath win in Kells

Ratoath won by four points in Grangegodden on a very blustery morning last Sunday.

The match was a tough affair throughout with the visitors getting off to a strong start with several points and then a goal resulting from a Gavin McGowan free sailing over everybody and finding the net after 10 mins. Gael Colmcille were reduced to 14 men a few minutes later when one of their half forwards kicked a Ratoath player.

Despite this setback the home side rallied and scored 5 unanswered points before Ratoath took a hold of the game again.

It was Gael Colmcille who started livelier in the second half however Ratoath dug in and stopped them getting any meaningful rhythm going. While both sides exchanged scores Roger Casey's charges emerged stronger on the last quarter and found themselves with a 7 point lead in the closing stages. The numbers on the field were reduced further towards the end with Ciaran O'Hanrahan and Gael Colmcille Centre half back being both receiving red cards during a dust-up.

The Kells men did get a consolation goal to after three free-taking attempts to bring the final margin down to 4 points however it was Ratoath who deserved the victory having been stronger for the duration. Best for Ratoath were Ben McGowan, Gavin McGowan and James Duffy.
