Davis Cup: Ratoath lose to Na Fianna

Ratoath's Padraig O'Hanrahan

Na Fianna 3-13
Ráth Tó 2-9

Na Fianna's hurlers deservedly won this  Brendan Davis cup match played on Thursday evening in Brownstown .

This was an entertaining game but initially struggled to get going with a number of wides recorded by both sides and the scoreline read just 2 points apiece after 17 minutes. It was then that the Enfield men began to exploit gaps in the home team defence with a goal in the 19th minute followed by a succession of points to put them 6 in front - 1-7 to 0-4.  This looked to have established a comfortable lead for them up to half time only to be hit by 2 sucker punches just before half time with goals from Paul McDonnell & Padraig O'Hanrahan. Roger Casey's charges would thus go in at the break 2-5 to 1-7 ahead.

This comeback proved something of a false dawn as the visitors dominated the second half . As soon as they scored their second goal, 2 minutes after the interval Na Fianna were never headed. That said Ratoath were always competitive but were let down by wayward shooting and 14 wides(in the 60 minutes) tells its own story. The opposition's third goal in the 46th minute put them 5 ahead and despite the home side's best efforts they eventually ran out 7 point winners. Best for Ratoath were Jack McGowan,Paddy Dowd, Ciarán O'Hanrahan, Neil O'Dowd
