HS Meath Football Team of the Week

April 22, 2015

Plenty of support at the Trim versus Dunderry clash in Cortown.

The second weekend of championship action saw some big displays. We pick the best of the bunch. In the hoganstand.com senior championship Na Fianna got off to a winning start. O'Mahonys repeated the county final win over Donaghmore Ashbourne while St Peters made it two from two at Wolfe Tones expense.

2. JP Casserly (Donaghmore Ashbourne)
Made a number of timely interceptions and more than held his own against a much vaunted Navan O'Mahonys attack in Walterstown.

3. Stephen Sheppard (Wolfe Tones)
As is the norm from the 'Tones' defende, he delivered another whole hearted display despite the loss at Pairc Tailteann. His tussle with Dunboyne full forward Michael Dunne was well worth the entrance fee.

4. Jason Yorke (Meath Hill)
Outstanding in defence against a very experienced O'Mahonys junior team. Fast becoming one of the best backs in the junior grade.

5. Craig Roche (Bective)
A solid display from the half back as Bective maintained their impressive start to the championship campaign with a win over Boardsmill in  Skryne.

6. Cathal Finn (St Peters Dunboyne)
The best man on the pitch as Dunboyne made it two from two. Very solid defending and outstanding at breaking forward as Wolfe Tones were defeated by the minimum.

7. Conor Downey (Na Fianna)
Delivered the best display over the weekend and was one of the main reasons Na Fianna defeated Blackhall in Summerhill. Broke up numerous Gaels attacks and kicked the winning point in injury time.

10. Ronan Jones (St Peters Dunboyne)
Worked his socks off for the Dunboyne cause despite having played a fine game for the Meath minors the day before. Scored a  point in their win over Wolfe Tones.

11. Stephen Bray (Navan O'Mahonys)
At the heart of nearly every Navan attack in their win over Donaghmore-Ashbourne. His distribution of the ball was a key factor in the win at Walterstown.

12. Thomas O'Reilly (Meath Minors)
The Meath captain led by example at Pairc Tailteann. Scored eight points as the young Royals overcame Laois in opening round of the Leinster MFC.

13. Andrew Tormey (Donaghmore Ashbourne)
Just back from his hamstring injury, the county man gave the O'Mahonys defence numerous problems. Ended up with a goal and five from his team's total of 1-8.

14. Owen McGrath (Trim)
Won loads of possession under pressure and never gave up on the cause even when it seemed that Dunderry were going to hold on. Got that crucial goal in injury time at Cortown.
