Classic Trevor on Second Captains Live

April 16, 2015

Trevor kicks a point for Meath in the '99 All Ireland decider.

For those of you that did not see the Second Captains Live programme last night on RTE you missed out on a classic sketch involving our own Trevor Giles.

The much watched programme featured a Top 5 GAA accessories piece. At number 2 was Colm O'Rourke and that famous knee bandage but at number 1 was former footballer of the year and current Meath selector Trevor Giles with that sleeveless jersey he wore in the 1999 All Ireland final win over Cork.

When asked where he got the idea from the Skryne man explained that he based it on Pat Spillane's famous vest shot at the Superstars World Final. He went on to add that he brought his jersey home before the decider and cut the sleeves off.

Asked if he ever wore it again, Trevor answered in his usual wit 'now and again'. The sketch ended with the Meath star wearing the same jersey and heading into his local O'Connells (made famous by the Guinness ad) and believe it or not ordering a pina colada.

It must have been after a game as most of the Skryne team were there having a few but they clearly were not impressed by Giles in his sleeveless jersey.

The show also featured world champion boxer Andy Lee, Mayo's James Horan along with golfer Shane Lowry, the son of former Offaly star Brendan.
