Seneschalstown Feile squad

The weekend of March 21st/22nd marked the first ever Meath Ladies Féile and it also marked a weekend of action during which the Seneschalstown U-14 Girls excelled on the football field.

Playing a total of five games over the weekend, four on Saturday and one on Sunday they played with great heart and determination and always representing their club and families with exemplar conduct.

On Saturday afternoon they faced four games on a warm, sunny afternoon in Skryne and got proceedings underway on the main pitch at 12:00 when taking on Donaghmore/Ashbourne.  Following a strong team performance they came out on top by 3-01 to 1-00.

In Round 2 they faced up to Simonstown Gaels in a 13:35 throw in and after a very tight encounter they fell to a two point defeat against the North Navan side after Simonstown were awarded a controversial late penalty.  The score at full time was Simonstown Gales 1-04 Seneschalstown 1-02.

Next up on the second pitch a game against St Colmcilles at 14.15. While Seneschalstown got the opening score, St Colmcilles had the upper hand for most of the first half until a late goal put the Furze girls 1 point ahead at the break.  Sensing a chance for revenge for last Monday nights League defeat to the same opposition the girls pushed on to record a 2-05 to 1-03 victory.

Last up was a game on the main pitch against old adversaries Skryne.  The Furze girls got off to a great start with 1-01 in the first 5 minutes but 2 points from Skryne had the HT score at 1-01 to 0-02.  A Skryne goal early in the second half put them in front for the first time. Scoring 1-03 in the last 10 minutes and keeping the hosts scoreless for the remainder put the Furze girl's top of the group after completing their 4 games and guaranteeing them at least a playoff.

When Simonstown defeated St Colmcilles in the penultimate game the Furze girls were guaranteed a place in the semi-final in Dunganny on Sunday at 15.15 where they were down to play Royal Gaels from Dunshaughlin.

In that semi-final the Dunshaughlin outfit who operate in Division 1 got off to a brilliant start to advance into a 2-04 to 0-01 half time lead.  However the girls in blue and gold are made of stern stuff and with their battling qualities to the fore they put in a superb second half showing but ultimately came up short as Royal Gaels advanced to the final which they would later win.  At the final whistle the Seneschalstown girls had lost out by 3-05 to 2-01 but had won plenty of admirers with their skill levels and positive attitude over the course of the weekend.
