Drumree 2-14
Kilskyre 1-06
Drumree continued their good start to the year with an emphatic victory over last year's Intermediate finalists Kilskyre.
They started at a lightening pace & ran into a 3 point lead after just 3 minutes thanks to well taken points from play from Keith Rooney who continues his foray in the forwards & the industrious James Reilly. The first goal of the match was scored after 5 minutes when Sean White refused to give up on a ball that looked like it would be cleared by Kilskyre keeper Peadar Byrne however White had other ideas & applied enough pressure on Byrne for him to lose control of the ball & white kicked it to the net. The 6 Drumree forwards were all moving well & giving the Kilskyre defence plenty of headaches. Reilly was proving a handful & would finish the day with 5 points from play to his name.
The second Drumree goal came 3 minutes before the interval when Josh Wall worked his way just past the 21 yard line before driving a rasping shot to the net giving the keeper no chance. Half time score Drumree 2-08 Kilskyre 1-01.
A much improved Kilskyre team emerged for the second half & produced a much closer contest for the next 30 minutes as both teams traded points, Tommy Shine & Podge Muldoon were to the fore & accounted for all of Kilskyre's second half points.
Shane Troy was introduced at half time & didn't waste any time in getting in on the action with a long range point from play before pointing a 75 yard free to extend Drumree's lead. Another substitute, Shane Gallogly also made an impact when introduced & scored a point when under severe pressure from the Kilskyre defence who ended up fouling him however the referee correctly played advantage & Gallogly pointed.
Full time score in a bitterly cold Drumree was Drumree 2-14 Kilskyre 1-06. These two teams are set to meet in the group stages of the Championship in a few months & a much closer contest would be expected.
