Turley boost for Meath Hill

March 04, 2015

Down's Damien Turley.

Meath Hill's prospects of getting their hands on the Matthew Ginnity Cup this year have received a massive boost with the recruitment of Down corner-back Damian Turley.

Turley's transfer from Downpatrick in his native Mourne County to Meath Hill was rubber stamped by Croke Park in February.

The Cavan border outfit are one of the favourites to claim Meath Junior Football Championship honours. The club appointed Tony Kearney as manager at the beginning of the year and he will bring a wealth of experience with him having guided Wolfe Tones to Junior, Intermediate and Senior championship honours. Under former Louth player David Reilly they reached the quarter final last year.

Turley lined out at left corner-back, scoring a point as Down overcame Cavan by 1-9 to 0-8 in Kingspan Breffni Park last Saturday night - although the people behind the match programme got their Meath clubs mixed up!

Meath play Down in the second last round of the National Football League in Newry.
