Gallen Community School Ferbane pulled clear in the last ten minutes to defeat O'Carolan College Nobber in the North Leinster Post Primary Schools senior football championship on the astro pitch today at Lomans Park Mullingar.

The game started in a downpour of rain and sleet and it took both teams a while to find their feet on the artificial surface. Conor Mannion kicked the game's first score for the Offaly school while Daniel Byrne replied for the North Meath college. Between the 10th and 20th minute Ferbane sent over four unanswered points through Mannion, Cian Johnson (2) and Conor Lynam (45). O'Carolan College were guilty of some bad wides but scores from Daniel O'Neill and Byrne narrowed the gap to 0-6 to 0-3 at the interval.

Gallen extended that lead in the early minutes of the second half with a well taken goal from Mannion. Between the 5th and 20th minute Nobber enjoyed their purple patch. Ben Tobin and O'Neill pointed before Kingscourt Stars clubman Ben Sheehan found the back of the Gallen net. Corner back Jamie McMahon send over a free and the game was all square at 1-6 each. But it was Ferbane who found the extra gear in the final ten minutes. Man of the match Mannion sent over his 4th point. Lynam and Jack Clancy added to that tally before defender Emmet Molloy was red carded by referee Conor Dourneen. Tobin narrowed the gap to two but time ran out for the Meath school and Gallen CS were crowned North Meath Champions.
