Feis Cup: Na Fianna advance in thriller

Na Fianna accounted for Walterstown in Enfield on Sunday afternoon, courtesy of an excellent first half performance.

Dalton McDonagh netted two goals in this half while Andy Glynn also found the net. The impressive Michael Farley pointed twice while Daniel Queeney, Barry Clancy and Dean Henrick all pointed once. Na Fianna led by 3-05 to 1-06.

Brian Queeney added another point for the home side from the throw in to boost Na Fianna's lead with McDonagh adding two more points. Walterstown rallied after this, but Barry Clancy pegged them back with a close range point. A goal in injury time brought Walterstown to within a point but it was not enough as Na Fianna held on.

Walterstown report
Walterstown played Na Fianna in the preliminary round of the Feis Cup in Enfield with the winners playing Moynalvey in the next round.

Na Fianna were first off the mark with a point inside the first minute, however Walterstown leveled 3 minutes later through Ruairi O'Dowd and he added

another point a minute later to put the blacks ahead. Mark McCormack added a point ton increase the lead to 2 points.

Both teams went through a 7 minute spell without finding a score before Na Fianna reduced the blacks lead to a point on the 13th minute.

Robbie McDonnell hit the back of the net a minute later to give the blacks a 4 point cushion. Na Fianna responded immediately with a goal of their own to bring it back to just a point between the teams, they followed this up with 2 further points to put them a point ahead with 20 minutes gone.

Walterstown scored the next 2 points to go back ahead however the last 5 minutes in the half were crucial with Na Fianna scoring 2-01 to go 6 points ahead. Alban Crosbie scored from a free just before half time to leave the sides going in at half time - Na Fianna 3-05 v Waltertsown 1-06

Na Fianna further extended their lead scoring a point within a minute of the second half.  Alban Crosbie once again reduced the lead to 5 points. With 10 minutes gone in the second half Na Fianna remained 5 points ahead having gone 6 ahead before Crosbie brought it back to 5 points gap again. Na Fianna extended their lead to 8 points with 15 minutes left.

Na Fianna having built up the 8 point lead perhaps felt they had the game won and with Walterstown making 4 subs in the last 15 minutes they scored 1-05, Na Fianna crucially scored a point in this spell which earned them the 1 point win.
