Round 2 of the Cooney Cup and Corn Cois Farraige is over

The second round of the Cooney Cup and Corn Cois Farraige took place with some very exciting games.

St Pats NS ( Stamullen) 1-17 (18) V Le Cheile NS ( Mornington) 0-6

Round 2 of the Cooney Cup saw matches played in Piltown, home to St Colmcilles.   In game one St Pats Stamullen took on Le Cheile NS from the Marsh Road Mornington.  St Pats accounted for big rivals St Marys PPS in Round 1 and were overwhelming favourites to beat Le Cheile too.   Although St Pat's started slowly, Le Cheile were game opponents in the first half and with  points from Max Russell, Stefan Bors and Alanah Boland  they restricted the Stamullen boys lead to just  0-6 to 0-4 at the break.  However St Pats soon went into overdrive in the 2nd half and 5 points from the boot of Conor Dawson and 4 points from Darragh Burns saw them on their way with a comfortably win in the end.

Duleek Boys NS 3-11 (14) V Realt Na Mara Boys NS ( Donacarney) 5-10 (15)

Game 2 in Piltown saw a thrilling match between Duleek Boys NS and Realt Na Mara Boys NS from Donacarney.  This was a ding dong battle from start to finish with very little between the sides.  In the end it was 8 wonderful scores, 4 each from Eoin McCloughan and Shaun Leonard that settle the tie and a one point win for the boys from Donacarney who have now won both of their opening games.

Whitecross NS ( Julianstown) 0-8 V St Marys PPS ( Bryanstown) 0-15

The final game of Round 2 saw St Marys PPS take on Whitecross from Julianstown.   St Marys went down to St Pats in Round 1 by 6 points whilst Whitecross grabbed a late score to draw with Duleek Boys in Round 1.  In this game  Whitecross tried hard and 7 points from Ciaran White and a point from Conor Farrelly kept Whitecross in the match but St Marys in truth dominated for the most part.  On the day 2-2 from Joe Comiskey and 1-2 from David Hobbs as well as points from Liam Stafford, Sean Horan and Luke Hanan meant that the Bryanstown boys had the superior firepower and won out by 7 points in the end 0-15 to 0-8.

Game 2 in the Corn Cois Farraige saw newly amalgamated school side Bellewstown NS/Mount Hanover take on the boys and girls from Scoil Sporaid Naomh from Bettystown.  This was an entertaining game and the newly amalgamated side were very impressive from the start.  Great scores and play from Alan Leonard and Alan Boland saw them race into a 7 point lead.  The Bettystown boys did rally and some superb scores from Christian Finlay who hit 2-5 of his sides 2-8 kept his side in the game.   However more great scores and brilliant play from Oisin Myland at centre half back was enough to see them stretch the winning margin at the end out to a comfortable 6 points
