Meath players star for UCD Freshers

There were three Meath players on the UCD team that claimed the All Ireland Freshers football championship title at Portlaoise yesterday.

Moynalvey's Brian Harnan, Nobber's Sean Meade and Colm Honan from Navan O'Mahony's led the way as UCD completed a league / championship double, their first since 1969.

The Dublin College defeated UCC in the decider 0-13 to 1-6.

There was another Meath connection with UCD as Dunboyne's Shane McEntee along with Stephen O'Shaughnessy and Damien Farrelly completed the management team. The winners enjoyed a terrific second-half display, which saw them hold their opponents scoreless.

The Cork college led 1-6 to 0-8 at the break.
