Simonstown Report

Summerhill  2-7
Simonstown 0-12

Simonstown suffered a one point defeat at the hands of Summerhill in this All-County 'A' League Division one game played in wet conditions in Summerhill today (Feb 15th).

Summerhill got off to a great start with a goal after a minute of play when the ball somewhat deceived Simonstown goalkeeper Robbie Burlingham. However Simonstown settled and scored points from corner forward Nickey O'Brien and Andrew Kearney to draw level after fifteen minutes of play.

Then lighting struck twice. A high ball into the Simonstown square deceived Burlingham once again and Summerhill got their second goal to take the lead again. In fact Summerhill had the ball in the back of Simonstown's net for a third time only for match referee Richie Morris to disallow it for an infringement much to the relieve of the Simonstown supporters.

Despite the two goal set back Simonstown kept plugging away and more points from Andrew Kearney and Pauric McKeever left only a point between the teams at half-time: Summerhill 2-3 v. Simonstown 0-8.

In the second half wing forward Mark McCabe started in goals for Simonstown and it was nip and tuck between the teams. Shane O'Rourke levelled the game with ten minutes to go and a draw lucked on the cards but Summerhill kept their noses in front. Simonstown had chances to level but were guilty of hitting a number of wides.  Both teams deserve great credit for producing a very entertaining game played in wet and difficult conditions.
