Cooney Cup and Corn Cois Farraige round up

Victory for St Pats NS in the opening round of the Cooney Cup.

Round 1 of the Cooney cup threw up some interesting ties.  Game of Round 1 was St Pats NS, Stamullen V St Marys PPS and in a great match the Stamullen boys won out in the end by 6 points. Stars on the day were Aitzol King, Daragh Burns and Sean Flanaghan each scoring 4 points whilst 7 points from the boot of Luke Hanan for St Marys PPS was not enough to stop the St Pats boys from winning.

In the other two matches Whitecross came from 6 points down against Duleek Boys NS  to close out the match all square with a levelling score from Conor Farrelly. In the last game in the Cooney Cup, Realt Na Mara Boys NS beat Le Cheile 13-3 without it must be said some of their big name players.  On the day 7 points from Sean O'Donoghue (3)  and Cian Flynn (4) saw the Donacarney boys on there way.

In the Division 2 Competiton, the Corn Cois Farraige St Marys Donore came from 4 points down to see off Scoil Sporaid Naomh from Bettystown.  Five wonderful points from the boot of Christian Finlay saw the Bettystown boys put it up to  Donore NS in the first half.   In the 2nd half the move of Sam Victory to centre back saw the game turn on its head and he duly pulled the strings as well as kicking 4 great points to turn the 4 point deficit into a 4 point win in what was a great match.

In the final match in Round 1 the Irish speaking boys and girls beat the St Pats Ardcath/Clonalvy combination 22-6 in a comprehensive win.  Best for the Mornington school was Liam O h'Aolain who hit 1-3 and Oisin O'Mhurchada who was superb at the back and got forward to score 2-1.  Up front Fiachra Mac an Aba was the conductor in chief with some wonderful inter play with his team mates as well as contributing a wonderful 1-6 from play to see the Gaelscoil home with an opening day win.
