Colleges: Pats advance at Josephs expense

St Patricks College Navan advanced to the North Leinster Junior Colleges football decider with this four point win over St Josephs of Rochfortbridge in wet and windy conditions at Simonstown today.

The Westmeath school played with the wind in the first half and held a one point lead going in at the break. St Pats opened the scoring through Oisin Martyn. Evan Gorman replied for Josephs. Points from Eoin Bracken and Paul Carpenter put the visitors 0-3 to 0-2 up after 15 minutes. Jack Murray and Jason Reddy put the Navan boys in front. Pats held this one point advantage heading in to the last few minutes but Carpenter and Evan Gorman hit two fine scores to give Rochfortbridge a 0-7 to 0-6 interval lead.

St Josephs could have extended the lead with the first play of the second half but for a fine save by Pats keeper Mark Devlin. Matty Rowden did extend their lead with the first score of the second period. That proved to be their only score playing in to the wind as St Pats went on to dominate the last 25 minutes. Jason Reddy send over three points, 2 from frees, Brian Dowling hit two fine score and substitute Robbie Wogan fisted over to complete the victory.
