In the end Cortown prevailed but they needed a replay to defeat St Peters second string to return to the Intermediate ranks. Clonard, Junior B winners in 2011, made it to the semi-finals along with Simonstown while Drumconrath, Curraha, Meath Hill and St Brigids made steady progress through the group stages.
Our top six performers were:
Adam Flanagan (Clonard)
Made his senior inter county debut against Kildare in Croke Park and brought all that experience to bear on the club front. He was very dominant in the middle of the park throughout the championship as Kevin Foley's charges made the semi-final.
Glen Loughran (Cortown)
Now one of the veterans of Meath club football but what a year Loughran and Cortown had. He was a real leader at midfield and despite the miles on the clock, he still found the energy to get back and help his defence along with kicking some very crucial scores from frees and play. The leveller in the drawn final against Dunboyne springs to mind.
Brían Smith (Cortown)
He got that very important goal against Dunboyne in the replay that eventually swung the tide Cortown's way. He was a real bundle on energy on the 40 for Conn Clearys charges and his ability to win ball in the air was one of the highlights of the championship.
Michael Dunne (Dunboyne)
He would have got our vote for the Man of the Match award in the replayed final when he kicked eight points that day. A great target man on the edge of the square for St Peters, he also played in the Feis Cup and Division 1 football league finals.
James McEntee (Curraha)
Like Adam Flanagan he made his way on to the Meath senior squad last year. He was outstanding in his defensive duties and a real powerhouse coming forward. He always managed to get on the score sheet as Curraha finished second behind Cortown in the group to qualify for the quarter final.
Ryan O'Rourke (Cortown)
One of the best forwards in the Junior grade during 2014. A handful for all defenders and some very impressive scoring tallies along the way as Cortown became the first winners of the Peter McDermott Cup.
