Awards: Our best XV in the Junior grade

December 31, 2014

Our top XV from the Junior Football Championships.

Cortown surprised many by taking the Junior A championship with a replay win over St Peters Dunboyne while their were also titles for Wolfe Tones (Junior B), St Pats (Junior C) and Clann Na nGael in the Junior D. We pick the cream of the crop from this year's Junior grade.

1 John McFadden Cortown. Mr Consistency all year for the junior champions. Outstanding in both the final and the replay. His performance against Kilmainhamwood in round 3 was from the top drawer.

2 Brian Briody St Brigids. Rock solid all year for the Brigids as they made the quarter finals and with a little bit of luck could have sent eventual champions Cortown packing in Kilskyre.

3 Jason Yorke Meath Hill. A great year for this young full back. Meath Hill's stand out performer as they topped group C and advanced to the quater finals.

4 Ivor O'Halloran Cortown. The driving force behind the Peter McDermott Cup winners. Cleared his lines to great effect and was always on hand to lend vocal encouragement.

5 Conor Sheppard Wolfe Tones. Will surely be a senior championship player for the Tones next year. His match winning goal in the Junior B final was one of the best scores in 2014.

6 James McEntee Curraha. One of the most accomplished performers in the Junior grade this year. Always on the score sheet from the No 6 spot and was one of the main reason Curraha made it to the quarter finals.

7 Stephen Crosby Drumconrath. Not for the first time to make this team. Mr Consistent in the Junior championship and the type of player who could play anywhere. He was central to Drumconrath finishing top of group A and advancing to the quarter finals.

8 Glen Loughran Cortown. Like a fine wine... The veteran was in inspired form all year as Cortown claimed outright honours. His last gasp point to earn Cortown that final replay will go down in club history.

9 Adam Flanagan Clonard. A real powerhouse in the middle of the park for Kevin Foley's charges. Inspired by the county man a place in the semi final was achieved.

10 Shane Comiskey Dunboyne. A real live wire on the wing for St Peters. The Meath minor gave most defences in the junior grade a torrid time.

11 Breen Smith Cortown. Brilliant all year for Conn Cleary's men. Tremendous work rate, high fielding and some crucial scores as The Peter McDermott Cup was brought back to Cortown.

12 Niall Carolan Dunboyne. One of the top scorers in the Junior Championship this year from frees and play. His goal in the drawn final was well worth the entrance fee.

13 David Rispin Cortown. Like his team mate in the other corner was in inspired form all year for the champions. Pace to burn and a vital outlet for Cortown attacks. Very accurate to boot.

14 Michael Dunne Dunboyne. Probabaly the best player on view in both the drawn and replay finals. The target man for most Dunboyne attacks and always managed to find the target.

15 Ryan O'Rourke Cortown. Exceptional all year for the winners. The very stylish corner forward was a handful for most defenders and weighed in with some crucial scores and fine tallies.
