December 15, 2014

Kilmessan celebrate their minor success.

Meath u-18 Championship Final played @ Ratoath Sat 13th Dec 2014

Kilmessan 2-7 Boardsmill/Killyon 2-5

Kilmessan camogiers capped off a wonderful year winning the minor championship final against an amalgamated Boardsmill/Killyon side  in Ratoath

The Kilmessan girls have done very well even making it to the final this year as they have not managed to field a full team all season. They played with 13 players for their first 3 matches and they have only had 14 since their semi final.

Playing with a strong wind in the opening half, Boardsmill/Killyon got off to the better start making Kilmessan work very hard, cleverly using their extra player to double mark Kilmessan's top scorer Kelly Gorman.

At the back Kilmessan were under pressure from Grace Coleman and Rhiannon Hoey who were running strongly and creating scoring opportunities. They managed two first half goals along with 2 pointed Hoey frees, however Kilmessan remained patient and Aine Brady kept Kilmessan in the hunt when she bagged a super goal, a delightful half volley she doubled to the net along with 2 Nadine Doyle points (0-1f and 0-1 play) leaving only three points between the sides at the break. Kilmessan 1-2 Boardsmill/Killyon 2-2

Playing with the wind in the second half, Kilmessan imposed themselves a lot more and with Megan Thynne pulling the strings at midfield they out scored Boardsmill/ Killyon by 1-5 to 0-3, Niamh Costello with Kilmessan's second goal, Thynne 0-1, Lauren Gorman 0-1 and Kelly Gorman 0-2 with great points from play and a super Nadine Doyle free from 50m on the left wing. In what was an excellent team performance with only 14 players, best for Kilmessan were Joelle Smyth, Laura O'Neill and Krystelle Clynch in defence and Megan Thynne at midfield and the up and coming stars Brady and Costello who grabbed the vital goals when needed.

Kilmessan captain Hilary King accepted the cup from newly appointed Meath Camogie Chairperson Christy Mangan.
