Div 1 FL: Dunboyne and Na Fianna look to end the year with silverware

St Peters Dunboyne and Na Fianna will look to sign off the year with silverware when they go head to head in the Division 1 All County League Division 1 final at Pairc Tailteann.

Na Fianna will be looking to create their own piece of history by winning Division 3, 2 and 1 in three years while Dunboyne will be hoping to make up for their losses in the Feis Cup and Junior championship finals.

St Peters finished top of the division with 22 points, 11 wins and 2 losses. Na Fianna were two points behind on 20 with 9 wins 2 draws and 2 losses.

Both sides have shown a likeness for goals over the campaign. Dunboyne bagged 36 that included nine against Oldcastle while Na Fianna raised the green flag on 29 occassions. Their highest was 5 against Simonstown.

The teams met in a thriller in round 5 where Dunboyne came out winners by two points 3-16 to 3-14.

A late goal and point from St Peter's Dunboyne stunned Na Fianna who looked to have done enough to come away with the points. Donal Lenihan got 2-5 for the winners.

This was a high scoring game that ebbed and flowed throughout. Conor Downey finished to the net in the opening half while Jamie and Daniel Queeney and Barry Slevin sent efforts over the bar. Na Fianna held a slender 1-07 to 1-06 lead at half time.

The second half saw the game open up and both sides served up an excellent free scoring game. Barry Slevin finished to the net after a good run through by Ollie Lewis while Downey netted his second.

Unfortunately for Na Fianna, the concession of two important scores in injury time saw them leave Dunboyne empty handed.

They met in the 2013 hoganstand.com SFC opening round. Na Fianna up from intermediate got their season off to a great start with a 2-10 to 1-11 win while in this years Feis Cup it was St Peters who emerged victorious 2-10 to 1-12.
