U21FC: Curraha edged out by Trim

October 22, 2014

Curraha 3-10
Trim 3-12

Curraha crashed out on the U21 A Championship last night at the first hurdle after a hard fought game with Trim. Despite starting well and playing well for the majority of the game the first ten minutes of the second half were Curraha's downfall as Trim ran riot and raced into nine point lead after three quickfire goals saw them reduce the three point lead at half time and take control of the game. Curraha showed great belief and determination to stage a fightback and when Ciaran O'Hanrahan added two goals it looked like the comeback was going to work but they just ran out of time at the end.

Trim were the team to get the score board up and running from the beginning but Curraha founded their feet when Aaron McDonnell was fouled in the square and centre forward Niall Moriarty obliged with a well struck penalty. After this Curraha were in control and should of added another two goal chances along with some points but James Toher was keeping Trim in the game and although he missed two frees he also kicked two fine points from play. Moriarty added three frees along with fine points coming from Neil Shortall and David Toner. Trim kept ticking away and were certainly happy to be only three points down at half time on a scoreline of 1-06 to 0-6.

James McEntee came on mid way through the second half and although kicking two points Curraha could never reel in Trim and will look back to that ten minute slip which proved very costly.

Best for Curraha were Brian Murphy, O'Hanrahan and Moriarty.

Curraha: L. McCarthy, C. Joyce, S. Hogan, K. Laffey, D. Toner 0-1, E. McGovern, N. Shortall 0-1, B. Murphy, S. O'Hanrahan, N. Moriarty 1-5, C. O'Hanrahan 2-1, D. Battersby, A. McDonnell. Subs: J. McEntee 0-2 for Murphy, D. Doran for Laffey, A. Coyle for Moriarty.
