Club Football Team of the Week

October 22, 2014

A happy Navan O'Mahonys supporter after their 19th Keegan Cup success at Pairc Tailteann.

Thats that. Another championship year comes to a close. Everyones favourite at the beginning of the year for the hoganstand Meath SFC, Navan O'Mahonys, didn't disappoint while Cortown made the step back up to the intermediate grade with a replay win over Dunboyne. We pick our final hoganstand .com team of the week for 2014.

1 John McFadden Cortown: Solid and composed and kept his defence together under immense pressure in the final ten minutes as Cortown took home the Peter McDermott Cup.

2 Brian Dillon Navan O'Mahonys: One of his best displays this year. Defended well and won vital possession as the Keegan Cup was brought across the road to Brews Hill for the 19th time.

3 Niall McKeigue Navan O"Mahonys: After a shaky opening fifteen the team captain led by example and was an inspiration to all his team mates.

4 Conor Carton Donaghmore Ashbourne: Another fine performance from the young defender. Won't be too long till we see him wearing the green and gold senior jersey.

5 James O'Reilly Navan O'Mahonys: Always on hand to tackle, take a pass or carry the ball into an attacking position. Another whole hearted performance from 'Bangers'.

6 Shane Crosby Navan O'Mahonys: After the opening ten minutes very few Ashbourne attacks went through the middle of the Navan defence. The No 6 was the main reason for this. Won loads of breaking ball and very stong in the tackle.

7 Gary O'Brien Navan O'Mahonys: It was always going to be a day for the experienced player. O'Brien fitted the bill perfectly. Always willing to drive at the Ashboune defence and carried out his defensive duties to great effect.

8 Conor Carey Donaghmore Ashbourne: Some year for the Donaghmore number 9. Was the best midfielder on show in the county final.

9 Breen Smith Cortown: The junior champions best player. Picked at number 11 but covered the middle sector to great effect. Constantly ran at the Dunboyne defence and was rewarded with that crucial goal late in the game.

10 Ruairi O'Coileain Navan O'Mahonys: Like most of his team mates produced an exceptional work rate. Got in for that important first goal that broke the resolve of Donaghmore early in the second half.

11 Stephen Bray Navan O'Mahonys: Yet again the go to man for most of the Navan attacks. Used all his experience to great effect, kicked 3 points, the one from out on the terrace side, an outstanding score.

12 Alan Forde Navan O'Mahonys: Covered every bit of Pairc Tailteann for Davy Nelson's charges. His ball carring ability was a key factor in O'Mahonys win. Scored a point, drew frees and helped out his under pressure defence on numerous occasions.

13 Michael Deegan Donaghmore Ashbourne: Ashbourne's best attacker over the hour. Took serious watching by the Navan rearguard. Finished with 5 points to his name.

14 Michael Dunne Dunboyne: The best player on the pitch in the junior final replay. Most of the St Peters attacks went through the full forward. Kicked eight points and might have won it in the dying seconds with that close in free.

15 Jake Regan Navan O'Mahonys: Voted 'Man of the Match'. Probably Navan's most consistent performer over the campaign. The champions top scorer on the day with 1-4. His goal effectively killed off the match and his point from under the stand in the first half was pure class.
