October 20, 2014

Nobber's Karl Casserly

Nobber 1-12 Dunshaughlin 1-6

Nobber qualified for the semi final of the U/21 A Football Championship following this victory over Dunshaughlin at a wet and windy Bective on Sunday morning.

Playing with the wind in the first half Nobber were first to score with a Declan Shields point and registered further scores through Sean Meade 2 Karl Casserly 2 Ryan Hughes and Shields again to move in to a comfortable lead.
Dunshaughlin struck for a 29th minute goal to leave the bare minimum in it at the break 0-7 to 1-3.

After an opening Dale Larkin point Nobber did not score again until the 51st minute but gradually got on top and a Sean Meade goal turned the game in Nobbers favour. Declan Shields, the hardworking Casserly added further scores to give Nobber fully deserved their victory and if they had not squandered some very clean cut goal chances their margin of victory would have been greater.

Nobber had good performances from Sean Meade, Karl Casserly, Stephen O'Brien, Ryan Hughes, James Halpin and Paul Meade

Nobber: T McEntee, S O'Brien, C. Cassidy, E. Fagan, P. Meade, R. Hughes 0-1, F. McEntee, D. Larkin 0-1, J. Halpin, D. Shields 0-3, D. Halpin, S. Meade 1-3, K. Casserly 0-4. Sub: Dara Cassidy for Dean Halpin

DUNSHAUGHLIN REPORT

Nobber 1-12 Dunshaughlin  1-06

Dunshaughlin got their quest for U21 glory on the road in Bective today with Nobber being their opponents in a match played in non ideal blustery conditions. It was the men from North Meath who got off to a better start playing with a wind advantage to register the opening scores of the game before Shane Gallogly who found himself in unusual territory lining out at centre back opened Dunshaughlins account for the day with a beautifully judged shot that bent from right to left after 10 minutes of play to sail over the bar. Nobber were not deterred  by this and managed to get some more valuable scores on the board before some fantastic build up play that involved some slick hand passing from Danny Quinn, Oisin Foley and Evan kinsella seen Niall Byrne slot over his first of the day with a trademark score. Nobber were enjoying some good periods of possession and their ability to run at the Dunshaughlin rear guard was starting to cause Dunshaughlin all sorts of problems and had it not been for the post and some wasteful shooting Nobber could have been home and hosed before half time. Thankfully for Dunshaughlin a beautiful score from midfielder Ben Duggan was keeping them in the tie before a contender for goal of the year came before half time by attacking wingback 'danger' Dan Ormsby who seen his low powerful shot hit the back of the Nobber net to have Dunshaughlin trailing by a point before referee Donal Smyth blew a halt to proceedings.  The second half resumed with Nobber the quickest out of the blocks with them scoring two more unanswered points. Some fantastic blocking from David Dunne, Shane Gallogly and Liam Carey were keeping Dunshaughlin in the game before goalkeeper Martin Nevin pulled off a fantastic save to finally wake Dunshaughlin up. Dunshaughlin were guilty of missing some scoreable frees and had not managed to score yet 15 minutes into the second half but two  converted frees from Shane Gallogly now had Dunshaughlin back in the game as we entered the last 10 minutes. Nobber to their credit always seemed to find a way to halt any Dunshaughlin resurgence and they were rewarded with 6 minutes to go when they finally managed to raised the green flag to now have 5 points between the teams. Danny Quinn managed to get his first score of game for Dunshaughlin near the end before a more physically  Nobber outfit ran out deserving 6 point winners. Best for Dunshaughlin were Martin Nevin, David Dunne, Shane Gallogly & Oisin Foley.
