JFC Final Replay: Should be another cracker

October 17, 2014

Dunboyne's Michael Dunne with Paddy Kerrigan Cortown during the drawn JFC Final at Pairc Tailteann.

St Peters Dunboyne and Cortown will meet once again to decide the destination of the Junior Football Championship title. The Peter McDermott Cup awaits the winners.

The drawn game was one of the best junior deciders in years. Dunboyne must have thought the game was in the bag leading by three points with six minutes left on the clock. But as they say down Cortown way "they will be hard bet" and that proved to be the case, kicking three points to earn a replay. Glen Loughran's equaliser well worth the entrance fee.

Both teams finished with 14 players but the good news for Dunboyne's Michael Dunne and Daire O'Halloran Cortown are free to play on Sunday.

Cortown kicked 13 wides in the drawn game and will be keen not to repeat that again. For long periods in the second half they were under immense pressure especially after O'Hallorans sending off. John McFadden was very composed in goal while he got good assistance from Ivor O'Halloran and team captain Colm Kerrigan. Glen Loughran and Kevin McGuinness held their own in the middle of the park. Con Cleary will yet again look to his full forward line of Ryan O'Rourke, Brian Casserly and David Rispin to do the damage.

Dunboyne looked the more comfortable of the two teams in the drawn game. The game was theirs with six minutes remaining and leading by three points. The sending off of influential full foward Michael Dunne had a big bearing on the result. Johnny O'Connor produced a magical save in those final minutes to keep Cortown at bay. Team manager Conor O'Donoghue will look to another good defensive performance from Ben Carolan, Luke Harte and Stephen Hogan. Midfielders Barry Comer and Padraig Curran had the upper hand for a lot of the drawn game while forwards Stephen Moran, Shane Comiskey, Niall Carolamn and Dunne will be hoping to reproduce the same form and scores again.
