St Pats GAA Stamullen club notes

October 13, 2014

"Nobody Does It Better" - Great success for St.Pats.
The club have found themselves living the dream as of late with been successful in different age categories.  First up was the U12 Girls league final which was played on 21.06.14 seen St.Pats defeat Rathkenny by a scoreline of 1.05 to 0.05. Then there was the U12 boys summer league final against Duleek/Bellewstown which was played on 06.08.14 which finished with a score line of 0.41 to 0.36 in favour of St.Pats. This was followed by the Junior C Final replay where St.Pats met Blackhall Gaels in Kilbride Gaa grounds which was played 13.09.14 with the Pats winning 1.13 to 0.07.  Then up was the Girls U14 shield final replay which took place in Bective where the girls were triumphant against a good Trim side 4.12 - 2.08. The Junior Hurlers were up next against hot Favourites Kildalkey which was played in Pairc Tailteann and finished in favor of St.Pats 2.09 - 0.13,  St.Pats have now won back to back championships from J2HC in 2013 to JHC 2014.  Next year see's the lad rise up to Intermiate. This then followed the B League final win against Na Fianna played in Skryne with a score line of 1.16 - 2.09.  This is a great time for the club, its members, managers, mentors and followers who attend our matches.  Hope fully the season will continue to be successful for other age groups. Our PRO at St.Patricks Gareth McDonnell has made a small montage so sar of the success for the club in 2014.  To view please go to our Facebook page or copy the link below.

B Football League Final

In the Junior B Football Championship Div 3 Final sponsored by JMB Sportsfield Services St.Pats met Na. Fianna which was played at Skryne Gaa Grounds. A very enjoyable match played in Skryne last evening under lights, the third time these two teams meet this year with a win to St. Pats and a draw between them. Both teams started at great pace but it was the sharp finishing of Na Fianna forwards that kept the teams apart, unfortunately at the other end St. Pats forwards missed to open chances of goals to keep the pressure on the Na Fianna men. Played at a very fast pace throughout with some defending from the St. Pats backs in the first half, Diarmaid Leahy and Andrew Reilly and J.P. Ryan, and Keih Whearty. Continued hard work in the middle of the field from Cormac Sullivan and Brian Calvey. Half time : St. Patricks 0.05 v Na Fianna 2.05
The second half brought changes to the better for St. Pats as the forwards battled hard for the supply of ball which yielded many points and before too long they had drawn level, from Neil O' Flaherty, Alan Vickers and Daithi Whyte with O' Flaherty in particular hitting some points to take the game away from the opposition. With the introduction of some fresh legs the Pats continued to charge forward and continued to point the game away from their opponents of Na Fianna, with some fine passing leading to the finish to the net by Daithi Whyte.

The new blood of St. Pats continues to flow into the adult teams and the wisdom of some of the senior players an assist to say the least, Adam Byrne and John Curtis making a quality contribution, and Aaron Mulvany and Conor Tully when introduced. Full time : St. Patricks 1.16 - Na Fianna 2.09

The Presentation on the night was made by Mairead Delaney from the County Board of the new inaugural cup presented to the County by Bective GAA Club in honour of the late John Moran - The John Moran Memorial Cup. Team was as follows : Robert Cluskey, Diarmaid Leahy, Shane Mc Ginty, Adam Byrne, J.P. Ryan, Keith Whearty, Michael Hagan, Cormac Sullivan, Brian Calvey,
Ronan Kearns, Alan Vickers, John Curtis, Niall Whearty, Neil O' Flaherty, Daithi Whyte, Subs :
Andrew Reilly for Shane Mc Ginty (broken nose after 15 mins ), Barry Campbell for Ronan Kearns (after 20 mins ), Aaron Mulvaney for Michael Hagan, Martn Mc K enna for Brian Calvey
Conor Tully for Niall Whearty.

Scorers for St. Pats : Daithi Whyte 1.2, Neil O' Flaherty 0.5, Alan Vickers 0.4
Niall Whearty 0.3, J. P. Ryan 0.1,Barry Campbell 0.1

J.P Ryan 5 Star Performance

The Hurling Team of the week after the championship finals seen our own J.P Ryan take position no.5 J.P was the best player on the pitch as St Pats jumped from Junior 2 hurling to Intermediate in two years. J.P who was instrumental in the Pats win over favorites Kildalkey hit three points and took the free that led to that winning goal by Neil O'Flaherty in the dying moments at Pairc Tailteann. Well done JP from all at the club.

Victorious Junior C Win J.F.C
Having seen honours even in Pairc Tailteann in the previous game with Blackhall Gaels this match went to a replay which was played at Kilbride Gaa Grounds. Both teams started off well taken point from point. A blood injury to Niall Russell led to the first replacement for St.Pats who eventually shaded the 1st half by 3 scores on a scoreline of 0:7 to 0:4.  With Blackhall wasting no time in taken to the pitch early & with Ref Pat Clarke blowning on his whistle to call on the Pats. Gaels started brighter in the 2nd half infact taken the 1st three scores with the Pats backline still in interval mode. However that soon changed and the Pats were back on top taken their scores with the impressive Barry Campbell taken his scores with ease.  Midfield battles were won by the experienced Cormac Sullivan ablely assisted by Brian Calvey & Alan Vickers. As the Pats were easing ahead with led to the introduction of substitutions with Liam Nulty bagging the goal which stretched the Pats lead ever further. As the clock was winding down St.Pats added a few pts to the scoreline but there was never going to be a comebck for Gaels. Final Score St.Pats 1:13 - Blackhall Gaels 0:7.  So the 39yr wait was over & team Captain Alan Vickers lifted the Cup at the presentation to a joyous travelling Pats army and thanked Blackhall Gaels team for a great game. Celebrations followed with the team on pitch and later in Whytes of Stamullen. Well done to all JCFC Winners 2014

JHC Final win For Pats

In the Semi final of the "David Grey Catering" Hurling Championship St.Pats disposed of a well fancied Boardsmill team which was played in Kilmessan to make the final where Kildalkey were waiting at the other end. An exciting game to watch with St.Pats just shading the 1st half by 4pts but in the 2nd half it was Boardsmill who took the first 2 scores with a goal & a pt putting them back on terms in quick succession however the Pats up'd their game after this and brilliantly took their scores in the end running out worthy winners. Final score St.Pats 3:13 - Boardsmill 1:11. So to the final in where the best two teams met in Pairc Tailteann. Kildalkey on the evening had the favourites tag & took the first 3 scores but that didnt stop the Pats once they got settled into their own game the lads eventually replied with their own scores and getting their goal from Brian Farrelly. Things were level at half time 0:08 pts to 1:05. In the second half Kildalkey started strong again eventually stretching their lead to 3pts at one stage, but the Pats kept plugging away picking up their own scores reducing it to one pt. With the change of substitutions for the Pats fresh legs made the difference with Harney, O'Donoghue & Kirwan coming on.  With less that 1 minute to go the Pats threw everything forward into the Kildalkey goalmouth with the Slitor breaking to Neil O'Flathery who hit the back of the net to a Ecestatic Pats dugout of joyous celebrations as the final whistle went St.Pats were crowned JHC winners 2014. Final Score St.Pats 2:09 - Kildalkey 0:13. This has been a successful period for the Pats at hurling having won the J2HC last year and now the JHC.  Next year will be Intermediate for the club. Well done to all.

St.Pats Minor Football

Minor Football Championship Div 3 Round 1 took place in Longwood where St.Pats met South Meath Gaels & a win for the Pats.  Final score Pats 1:17 - Gaels 2:09.
Juvenile U8's Hurling

In the "Meath Go Games Hurling Junior Royals" the kids visited their nearest rival St.Colmcilles to take part in their home blitz along with Ratoath & Wolfe Tones. Another great day out not just for St.Pats but for all teams as they learn the trade of the wonderful sport of Hurling. In the final "Junior Royals" Blitz games of the season St.Pats held their final home blitz of the Gaa season with Cilles, Ratoath & Wolfe Tones visiting for the morning. Great to see so many kids playing hurling but especially for St.Patricks as it see's our juvenile teams continue to develop in a once "non-existent" setup. Many thanks to Hugh Reilly Senior member of St.Pats hurling team & his assistants who give up their free time to continue to encourage & develop the children in hurling. Note that the underage hurling groups will finish up on 20th October.

U6's Football

U6's will complete their season on 25th October.  Thanks to all the children for a great season & hope to see you back in 2015.

U8's & U10's & U11's

In the "Newgrange Division of Meath Go Games" both the U'8 & U10's  held their final home blitz of the Gaa season & the finals games of the "Newgrange Division of Meath Go Games" for both U8's/U10's with Ratoath & St.Colmcilles the teams that were visiting for the morning. Both age groups have come a long way since the start of the season & can be proud of their achievements to date.  This will conclude the U8's season Games for 2014 however there is some possibility of some Astro tuft "Light sessions" with Barry Campbell, while the U10's will continue to train for a couple of weeks & finish off with indoor training. The U11's have formed for an Autumn/Winter league where they will feature in 9 games in a league format. In their 1st match the Pats hosted St.Mary's in a good game in Stamullen, with things evenly level at halftime, but with St.Mary's having that little bit more in the tank and experience prevailed in the end. This is a 1st outing for our U11's who are stepping up to a higer level, they will continue to learn and gain experience which will benefit them in the end. Next up will be the visit of Skryne.

Boys U13's

In the start of the U13 football league Div 3 round 1 was St.Pats v Round Towers and a home fixture for the Pats who gave a good game to their oppostion but in the end were defeated. Final score St.Pats 2:06 - Round Towers : 2:19. In Rd 2 St.Patricks were the guests of Duleek/Bellewstown & came away with a 6pt win final score 3:07 - 4:10.

In the U13 Div 8 round 1 St.Pats hosted St.Colmcilles. A much more tighter affair was this match but the home side just had that little bit more . Final score St.Pats 4:07 - St.Colmcilles 3:06.   In Rd 2 St.Patricks travelled to Ashbourne were they were up against Donaghmore/Ashbourne but unfortunately were defeated by 5pts. Final score 2:15 to 1:13. In Rd3 St.Pats travelled to Dunshaughlin but were beaten 2:15 to 3:05.

Boys U14's

The Under 14's Meath development squad continued in Dunganny last month September with St.Pats Johnny Woods & Dillon Foster been requested to attend. Well done to the boys on their continued attachment within this setup.

Scott Gets The Silver
Congratulations to St.Pats U10 player Scott Guildea who won the silver medal in the U10 Comminity Games Hurdles Finals in Athlone recently. Scott won his heat & went on to win his semifinal to take his place int he final. He was awarded a silver medal after a nail-biting photo finish. Scott did both his parish & his county proud. Well done Scott from all your team mates in the U10's at St.Patricks Gaa.  An All Ireland medal at age 9 that is one great achievement.

Club Reteoir 2014
An interview with the Tully Twins Conor & Andrew took place recently on a short Questions & answers session on their experiences on completing the Reiteoir course for 2014.  St.Pats are greatful in both of the lads that they are officially Reiteoirs. We wish the lads the very best of luck as Refs. A link to the interview can be found here : http://www.hoganstand.com/meath/ArticleForm.aspx?ID=224254

Girls U11's
The return of the U10 girls who will part take in the U/11 South West Autumn/Winter Leagues. Games for both St.Pats Green Team & White teams were Dunsany, Slane, Summerhill, St. Colmcilles, Rathkenny, Dunboyne, Dee Rangers & Ballivor. Well done girls continuing to make great progress.

Girls U13's
U13 Green will played St Colmcilles in their first league match in Stamullen and had a convincing win while our White Team travelled to play Kilbride. Other matches for the girls green & white teams were against Ratoath & Boardsmill.

Girls U14's Shield Final Replay
The much awaited U14 shield final reply v Trim took place on Sunday 14th September in Pairc Beagteach. To be honest it was a long wait for this replay but with a feeling it had come to too soon for the girls after our summer break with match fitness looking to be  an issue. This turned out to be a very good game of football played in a very sporting manner by both teams, After about 15 minutes our match fitness concerns were unfounded as you could see the Pat's girls were up for this test and you could just sense they were not going to let this one slip away. Eventually we did come out on the right side of the score line of 4:12 to 2:08, in her captain's speech Jade Geraghty thanked the Referee all the parents and mentors and Trim for an excellent game of football. I could mention any one of the 14 girls on the day but I have to give a special mention to Pats Goal keeper Katie Brangan for her heroics between the posts.

Girls U15's
The Pats girls welcomed Moylagh to Stamullen where they found themselves down by 5 points with about 7 min's to play and they had to call on all there experience and composure to pull this one out of the bag with Goals coming from Jade Geraghty, Josie Wogan  & Hannah Mannion. Yet again for the second weekend running a power house display from Goalie Katie Brangan was enough to see the Pats close this one out by the narrowest of margins. Final Score St.Pats 3:07 - Moylagh 2:09

Meath Girls U12's
Another great day for the Meath U12 girls team in Carlow as they bet Wexford in the final of a Leinster Championship completion. This news is extra special for us at St Pats as the Meath team was captained by our very own Ellen Grant. We want to send out a very big congratulations to Ellen and her team, another big milestone for Ellen. St. Pats are all very proud of Ellen and what she has achieved in such a short time playing Gaelic football.
