Girls U-13 Division 2 Round 4

Summerhill 1-00
Seneschalstown 3-09

Seneschalstown overcame Summerhill in this Division 2, Round 4 clash played in Summerhill.  The scoreline might suggest a very one sided game but the winners had to work hard for this victory.

The Furze girl's ability to get scores was the main difference between the teams.  Kelly Smith opened the scoring for Seneschalstown with a point in the third minute and followed that up with a pointed free three minutes later.  However the scoring dried up until the twentieth minute when Sorcha Gough scored a well worked goal which was followed up immediately by a point from Ava Garland.  Leanne Clarke added a second goal on the stroke of half time to leave the score at 2-03 to 0-00 at the break.

The second half started with Summerhill on top and a goal after seven minutes gave them some reward for their efforts.  Smith, like she did in the first half, opened the Furze girl's account in the second half on nine minutes with point from a free. Seneschalstown added further points from Clarke on twelve minutes, Smyth (free) on thirteen and Lauren Donnelly on fourteen minutes to extend the lead.  Kelly got another point from a free on seventeen minutes and Aoibhe Monaghan added a point after twenty two.  Gough added her second goal on the stroke of full time to keep the furze girls 100% record in the league.

The Seneschalstown defence played a big part in this win with resolute defending and backed up by a couple of goods saves from the keeper.  Midfield worked hard as did the forwards who covered a lot of ground tracking back when required in a good team performance.
