Kevin Reilly is to undergo an operation on his hip next month which will rule him out competitive action until the Spring.

The injury forced the Meath captain to miss his county's All-Ireland qualifier loss to Armagh and he was an unused substitute at the weekend as his club Navan O'Mahony's progressed to the last four of the Meath SFC.

"Kevin Reilly met with his orthopaedic consultant yesterday and a hip operation has been scheduled for the first week of October," Meath PRO Martin O'Halloran explained to hoganstand.com.

"The length of recovery time will only be accurately determined post operation but it will be a minimum of three to four months."
