JFCC: Silverware for Pats

September 16, 2014

St Patrick's Cormac Murphy is under pressure during the JFC C replay at Kilbride.

St. Pats 1. 13
Blackhall Gaels 0.7

Having seen honours even in Pairc Tailteann in the previous game with Blackhall Gaels this match went to a replay which was played at Kilbride Gaa Grounds. Both teams started off well taken point from point. Pats opened the scoring with a fine point from captain Alan Vickers, the scores followed for St.Pats Barry Campbell with a free, Ronan Kearns, Campbell again, and Blackhall close on their heals trading scores to make the game a tight affair. However a late scoring burst from the Pats saw them go in at the half 7 points to 4 to the good. Half time : St. Pats 0-7 to Blackhall Gaels 0-4.

They lost the full back Niall Russell just before the half to a blood injury. With Blackhall wasting no time in taken to the pitch early an with ref Pat Clarke blowning on his whistle to call on the Pats Blackhall made an impression when the second half resumed by notching the first two scores , and could have been more if not for some smart work in the goals by the Pats keeper Robert Cluskey.

However that soon changed and the Pats were back on top taken their scores with the impressive Barry Campbell taken his scores with ease. Pats began to take a foothold in the middle of the field with some excellent fielding from Cormac Sullivan and Brian Calvey, and the Pats began to kick on with some fine scores from Campbell, Vickers and veternan Cormac "Spud" Murphy.

The introduction of some young talent yielded its rewards with fine goal from the young Liam Nulty which put a gloss on the scoreboard. Blackhall attacked with all they had in the last quarter and could only register a single point thanks to some stern and courageous defending from the Pats defence especially Adam Byrne, J. P. Ryan and the young players of Leahy and Curtis. Full time St. Pats 1. 13 - Blackhall Gaels 0.7.  Team Captain Alan Vickers lifted the Cup at the presentation to a joyous travelling Pats army and thanked Blackhall Gaels team for a great game. Celebrations followed with the team on pitch and later in Whytes of Stamullen. The 39yr wait for JFC glory was finally lifed.
