Camogie: Semi-final ends in a draw

September 15, 2014

Trim were let off the hook somewhat in last Saturday evening's senior camogie semi-final against Dunboyne, as the tie ended in a draw after extra time.

Trim had an excellent start, when a Lynn Winters pass set Christine Fagan up to score the opening goal of the game.  Trim should have pushed on from here, however Dunboyne responded with 2 unanswered points. A Christine Fagan free put 2 points between the teams. Again Dunboyne responded and the scoreline was level at halftime; Trim 1-2 to Dunboyne 0-5. In fact Dunboyne could have been well ahead only for an excellent save from Anne Cole.

Trim started the 2nd half in the same fashion as the first when a Rachel Winters clearance was expertly struck to the back of the net by Shona White. Trim had a period of dominance in the first fifteen minutes of the 2nd half and scored 4 unanswered points and led by 6 points at this stage. However Dunboyne were not beaten and responded with a goal and 3 points which meant the sides finished level.

Full Time Score: Trim 2-6 Dunboyne 1-9

Trim dominated the first period of extra time scoring 2 points from Christine Fagan and kept Dunboyne scoreless for this period.
It was the reverse however in the second period of extra time with Dunboyne scoring 2 unanswered points. Dunboyne had an opportunity to win the game only for some great defending from the Trim defence, who cleared the goal line to prevent certain victory for Dunboyne.
It ended level again after extra time with a final scoreline of Trim 2-8 Dunboyne 1-11.
Trim will feel very lucky after this game and now know they need to improve greatly if they are to overcome this Dunboyne team to have the chance to play in the final. The date and venue for the replay have yet to be confirmed.
