More goals for Cathal Finnegan.

Under 15 League Division 2 Round 1

Seneschalstown 3-03
Wolfe Tones 4-09

Seneschalstown fell to a disappointing opening round defeat to Wolfe Tones on Saturday in a game played in glorious sunshine in Gibbstown.  The home side got into their stride early on by pointing in the first minute.  They continued to dominate in the opening quarter as they also split the posts in the fifth and seventh minutes.  In the eleventh minute, Tones opened up a six point lead when their full forward done well to punch a high delivery to the net.

Seneschalstown eventually got on the scoreboard when Robert Wogan pointed a free in the fourteenth minute.  The free was awarded after corner forward Dylan Keating was fouled. The Gibbstown\Kilberry side responded with two points three minutes later. However, Seneschalstown were thrown a lifeline in the twenty fourth minute when grabbing a goal. Cathal Finnegan - the hero of the U-17 triumph ten days earlier, caught a high Wogan delivery in an identical position to where he won the ball in that final.  On that occasion, he was content to take his point, but this time he had only one thing on his mind. He rounded his marker and calmly slotted the ball home. The last five minutes of the half remained scoreless as Tones held a six point lead at the change of ends.

Seneschalstown got off to a dream start in the second half when Finnegan netted for a second time after Brian Maguire laid the ball off to him.  However Tones hit back with a goal of their own in the thirty seventh minute.  They followed that up with two more points to lead 3-06 to 2-01 after 42 minutes.  Seneschalstown then found the net a third time when Wogan slotted home a penalty following a foul on Naoise Sweeney.  Wogan followed it up with another free and suddenly the gap was four points.

Tones, though, hit a further 1-03 between the forty ninth and fifty fifth minutes ending any chance the visitors had of comeback.  They did kick the last of the game after a third Wogan free.  The team will be looking to bounce back next weekend with a victory over Navan O'Mahonys.
