SFC: Battle for semi final places this weekend

Who will sit behind the sign on semi final day?

Eight teams, four games, the battle to reach the hoganstand.com Meath senior football championship semi finals takes place this weekend.

Duleek Bellewstown v Donaghmore Ashbourne

The first of the hoganstand Meath SFC quarter finals goes ahead this Friday. One of the favourites Donaghmore Ashbourne take on Duleek Bellewstown.

Managed by former Dublin star Paul Clarke, Donaghmore came through Group C unbeaten. A group that included both last years finalists Na Fianna and Summerhill. Duleek Bellewstown qualified for the quarter final when finishing third in Group A. Graham Geraghtys charges lost out narrowly to Skryne and Wolfe Tones.

Key Players Donaghmore Ashbourne:  Andy Tormey, Bryan Menton, Cormac McGill, Shane Melia, Ciaran Ellis, Shaun Byrne, Michael Deegan and the McGovern twins Thomas and Daragh.

Key Players Duleek Bellewstown: Ricky Nolan, Mark Collins, Con McGinley, John Flood, Podge Howard and Casey Dunne.

The teams met in round 10 of the Division 1 league with Duleek Bellewstown coming out on top 1-14 to 1-12

Na Fianna v Simonstown

The second quarter final brings Simonstown and Na Fianna to Lomans Park Trim. The Navan side came through Group B unbeaten and included a memorable win over neighbours O'Mahonys. The only blemish was a point dropped to Dunshaughlin in the last group game.

Na Fianna finished second in Group C. After getting a great start with that revenge defeat of Summerhill in the opening round  Na Fianna won one more game but got two draws against St Pats and Moynalvey. The Enfield Baconstown combination will be hoping for a repeat performance when the two teams met at the same venue in last years championship. Na Fianna won 5-13 to 1-15.

Simonstown Key Players: Eanna Donoghue, Joe Lyons, Shane O'Rourke, Shane Barry, Sean Tobin, Padraig McKeever and Andrew Kearney.

Na Fianna Key Players: Shane Geraghty, John Baldwin, Christy Cosgrave, Dean Hendrick, Jamie Queeney, Ollie Lewis, Daniel Queeney, Dalton McDonagh and Shane Barrett.

The teams met in round 8 of the league. Na Fianna came out on top 5-9 to 3-13

Summerhill v Wolfe Tones

The third quarter final has the makings of a great game. High flyers Wolfe Tones are unbeaten. In their four games they have scored 14 goals and recorded comfortable wins over Skryne, Oldcastle and Blackhall Gaels.

For the second year running Summerhill were lucky to escape from their group. After a disappointing start that included losses to Na Fianna and Donaghmore Ashbourne, Declan McCabes charges gathered five points from their last three outings plus with a fine 0-17 to 0-7 win over Seneschalstown in the preliminary quarter final.

Wolfe Tones Key Players: David Nolan, Stephen Sheppard, Shane Glynn, Stephen Corrigan, Cian Ward, Niall McLoughlin.

Summerhill Key Players: Tony McDonnell, Caolan Young, Davy Dalton, Brian Ennis, David Larkin, Adrain Kenny, Barry Dardis.

The teams meet in round 6 of the league. Final score wolfe Tones 5-9 Summerhill 0-8

Navan O'Mahonys v Skryne

The last of the four quarter finals takes place on Sunday and pits two of the biggest rivals, O'Mahonys and Skryne against each other. Both have struggle to find top gear so far in the championship.

Skryne finished second to Wolfe Tones in Group A, losing out to the table toppers in round one 3-8 to 0-10. But from there on recorded wins over Duleek Bellewstown, Blackhall Gaels, Oldcastle and a one point win over Dunboyne in the final game to clinch a last eight spot.

Navan O'Mahonys finished second behind neighbours Simonstown in Group B. Davy Nelsons men got off to a flyer easily beating Seneschalstown and Dunshaughlin but came undone in round 3 to Simonstown. Another point was dropped to Gaeil Colmcille in round 4 but the Navan men finished on a high with a 3-15 to 0-7 win over Walterstown to advance.

Skryne Key Players: Felim O'Rourke, Ciaran Lenihan, Aidan Tuite, Harry Rooney, Paddy Fox, Paddy O'Rourke, Ian Davis and Mark Battersby.

O'Mahonys Key Players: Marcas Brennan, Niall Mckeigue, Shane Crosby, Gary O'Brien, Stephen Bray, Shane Gillespie, David Bray and Jake Regan.

They met in round 10 of the league. O'Mahonys had a comfortable 7-11 to 0-7 win.
