Meath Senior Camogie Championship 7th Round played @ Kilmessan Tues 9th Sept

Half time score: Kilmessan 2-15   Dunboyne 3-0
Full time score: Kilmessan 6-22    Dunboyne 5-1

With the winners meeting Ratoath in a semi- final in two weeks time and the losers facing Trim in a semi-final in four days time, this tie was a crucial fixture for both clubs and it was the defending champions who came out on top scoring a massive 6-22 (6-13 from play). Despite the concession of 5 goals, Kilmessan always looked the better and more balanced team throughout and looked capable of scoring any time the ball travelled up to their forwards.
The game started tensely with some ferocious tackling coming in from both sides, however it was Kilmessan that settled quickest winning two frees in attack after some excellent play by Megan Ni Choileain whose pace and strong attacking runs in the half forward line cause serious problems for the Dunboyne defence so much so that she had to face three different markers during the match. Those frees were converted by Aileen Donnelly. Dunboyne responded with two opportunist  goals from corner forward Sinead Clince, after  poor communication on both occasions from the Kilmessan full back line. At this stage Dunboyne were threatening to forge ahead in the match with county stars Aoife Thompson and Sinead Hackett starting to gain more possession around the middle third, however Kilmessan upped the tempo and started to utilise their fast full forward line of Megan Thynne, Katie Ni Choileain and in particular Frances Lynch to rack up the scores to go in with a half time lead of 12 points.
Dunboyne managed to score 2-1 in the second half, 1-1 of that coming from defender Ellen Burke who struggled for pace in the defence but used her strength well in attack, however Kilmessan had by far the superior scoring power and managed 4-5 from play in the second half with substitute Sarah Ross bagging two of the goals.
Kilmessan finished with a resounding 24 point  win and will be pleased with a lot of aspects of their play, however the concession of soft goals will be worrying with a semi-final coming up in two weeks time so it leaves the defending champions wit plenty to work on  in the coming weeks.
Best for Kilmessan on the night was woman of the match Megan Ni Choileain in the half forward line, Frances Lynch who top scored with 1-6 from play at full forward and teenager Megan Thynne whose two goals in the second half were worth the admission price alone.
Dunboyne were best served by the Coyne sisters, Amy & Chloe and Ellen Burke
