Great day at the Ladies Finals

Seneschalstown's Louise McKeever celebrates her first goal against St Ultans in the Meath Ladies SFC final at Ashbourne.

The magnificent setting that is Ashbourne GFC pitch hosted the Meath Ladies Senior, Intermediate and Junior finals yesterday.

The opening game of the day saw Dee Rangers make up for last years disappointment and claim the Junior championship title in fine style. The winners lad 3-9 to 0-4 at the break with goals from Becks Goodwin, Grace Malone and Lisa Young. Goodwin got in for her second goal soon after the interval and the game was as good as over as contest. Final score Dee Rangers 7-15 Dunsany 1-5.

The second game of the day pitted last years junior championship winner Simonstown against Summerhill. In a low scoring first half Simontown held a 1-4 to 0-2 lead at the break. Naoise DeGraaff getting the all important goal. Goals from Niamh Crowe and Ciara Daly brought Summerhill right back in to the game after 20 minutes of the second half but Simonstown finished with a flourish and when Kelly Harris netted their second goal the title was heading Navan direction. Final score Simonstown 2-13 Summerhill 2-6.

The blue ribbon event of the day saw a repeat of last years decider with Seneschalstown once again defeating the auld enemy St Ultans. Ultans led at the break 2-6 to 0-11 thanks to two late goals from Ciara Murray and Trish Marley. The experience of Seneschalstown began to tell in the second half. Louise McKeever got an early goal to put Joe Sheridan's charges back in front and when the full foward raised a second green flag with ten minutes remaining the title was on its way back to the Yellow Furze club. Final score Seneschalstown 2-16 St Ultans 2-10.
