Club Football Team of the Week

September 04, 2014

By 2016 all Club Management teams must contain an Award One coach.

All the shouting is over, the groups are finished, some are through to the knockout stages, others can take it easy till next season while a few have the dreaded relegation play offs to look forward to. Our best XV in a frantic weekend of football action.

1 Trevor Wallace Clann Na nGael. The experience of the Athboy keeper was crucial as Clann Na nGael took Junior D honours. Good kick outs, solid under a dropping ball, cleared his lines, kept his defence on their toes and denied Ballinlough numerous times as they came looking for a goal.

2 Philip Garry Clann Na nGael. An exhibition of defending. Kicked a crucial point. Was the best man on the pitch as Clann Na nGael defeated Ballinlough to claim the Junior D title.

3 Christy Cosgrave Na Fianna. A fine defensive display led by the full back was the platform for last years finalists win over Rathkenny in Simonstown

4 Niall Groome Seneschalstown. Brilliant in his defensive duties and even better at popping up in attacking positions as Seneschalstown advanced to the quarter final.

5 Ciaran Ellis Donaghmore Ashbourne. The usual all out attack game from the Ashbourne half back. His two first half points were at the end of energy sapping solo runs.

6 Colm Mallen Ballinlough. Continues to impress for the Reds. Scored three points in their comfortable win over Syddan, his last the crucial score that sent Tom Shines men through to the knock out stages on score difference.

7 Darragh Smyth Navan O'Mahonys. Excelled in the half back position as David Nelsons charges defeated Walterstown to make the quarter finals.

8 Shane O'Rourke Simonstown. Dominated the middle sector for the table toppers. Substituted late on and Dunshaughlin staged that late late rally in Ashbourne.

9 Frankie Murphy Trim. For years the driving force behind this Trim team. Another wholehearted display from the midfielder in their win over Nobber at Sean Newman Park.

10 Shaun Byrne Donaghmore Ashbourne. Great work rate from the last years county minor. Kicked three fine points as 'The Moores' maintained the 100% record at Navan.

11 Brian Ennis Summerhill. Finished the game against Moynalvey top scorer with 1-8, a goal and two from play as Moynalvey were sent packing.

12 Shane Gallogly Dunshaughlin. Came on as a second half substitute. Scored a goal to narrow the Simonstown lead to 4 and with time sent over the equalising point and saved Dunshaughlin from a dreaded relegation battle.

13 Niall Mooney St Patricks. The main man yet again for the Stamullen men. Took the fight to Donaghmore Ashbourne for the hour. Had 1-6 on the scoreboard before his red card offence.

14 Joe Sheridan Seneschalstown. 1-4 from the former county star. His second half point into the wind was the score of the game as Seneschalstown defeated Gaeil Colmcille with ease.

15 Paddy O'Rourke Skryne. The Meath keeper turned on the style as Skryne overcame a determined Dunboyne in the winner takes all clash at Trim. 1-7 out of his teams total of 1-10 for the big Skryne man.
