Camogie: Kilmessan power to victory

August 27, 2014

Former Meath star Aileen Donnelly.

Meath Senior Camogie Championship played @ Kilmessan Tues 26th Aug

Kilmessan 7-28
Blackhall Gaels 2-4

Blackhall Gaels had no answer to Kilmessan's firepower in this 6th round championship tie. Four goals in the opening half paved the way and with the half back line of sisters Maeve & Caoimhe O'Leary and Tracy King in scintillating form the Blackhall attack failed to create enough opportunities to bother Kilmessan. Despite the absence of influential centre back and captain Ailbhe Lynch, Caoimhe O'Leary in particular stepped up to shine in the Kilmessan defence marshalling county star Jane Dolan superbly, restricting her to just one point from play mid way through the second half although Dolan did have a say in most of her team scores, scoring 1-2 from placed balls and setting up her sides second goal after a probing solo run. Blackhall's other point coming from mid-fielder Kristina Troy just before the final whistle. In contrast all six of the Kilmessan forwards and their two midfielders scored from play, with the full forward line bagging an impressive 4-14 between them.

Kilmessan will meet Dunboyne in the last round of the championship and with both sides unbeaten thus far, it will undoubtedly be a close encounter with the winners earning top spot in the championship table.
