Club Football Team of the Week

August 21, 2014

The hoganstand.com/Meath football team of the week.

Simonstown, Wolfe Tones and Donaghmore Ashbourne continue to show the way in the senior, Ballivor have emerged as favourites for the intermediate while Cortown sent out a warning signal in the junior.

After a hectic weekend of championship action we pick our best XV.

1 John McFadden Cortown. Man of the Match as Cortown outplayed championship favourites Curraha in Pairc Tailteann.

2 Eoin Potterton Ballivor. A brilliant defensive display from the dual player as Ballivor maintained their 100% record. Kept a firm grip on Clann Na nGael dangerman Graham Geraghty.

3 Mick Aherne Dunshaughlin. Another whole hearted display from the former county keeper as Kit Henry's charges picked up their first points with a win over Walterstown.

4 Brendan Heffernan Nobber. The North Meath club continue on their winning streak. Heffernan stood out as Drumbaragh were defeated in Kilmainhamwood.

5 Jordan McLoughlin Dunboyne. One of the performances of the weekend. The half back kicked four points from play as Dunboyne juniors kept themselves in contention with a win over Drumconrath.

6 Shane Melia Donaghmore Ashbourne. Not for the first time has the talented defender made this team. Classy, solid and composed as 'The Moores' made it four wins out of four.

7 Robin Clarke Duleek Bellewstown. Excellent debut for the minor footballer as Blackhall were sent packing 3-8 to 1-8 in Ashbourne.

8 Peadar Byrne Ballinlough. Playing better than ever. The former county man kicked seven first half points for 'The Reds' against Trim in Sean Newman Park.

9 Damien Carroll Ballinabrackey. Ruled the roost around the middle of the park in the 'Bracks' three point win over St Michaels at Trim.

10 Oisin Reilly Gaeil Colmcille. The best player on the well laid out Kilmainhamwood sod as Shane McAnarney's charges picked up a valuable point against favourites Navan O'Mahonys.

11 Mark Sullivan Moynalvey. Ten points for the county player in their great fight back draw against last years finalists Na Fianna. Two exceptional scores from the outside of the boot. Nearly a trademark at this stage.

12 Padraig McKeever Simonstown. Kicked four points from play, the second was a 'peach' and laid on the pass for Stephen Moran's second goal as Colm O'Rourke's charges remain unbeaten.

13 Dermot McGee Carnaross. Took over the scoring duties while his brother John L is sidelined with injury. Scored 1-6 and busted his boot in a real tour de force performance. Gave favourites Ratoath plenty to ponder on.

14 Cian Ward Wolfe Tones. Still one of the best marksmen in the county. A goal and nine against a very strong Dunboyne defence. Three of his points were well worth the entrance fee.

15 Andrew Kearney Simonstown. The energetic Kearney took the scoring honours with 1-5 as the north Navan side registered their fourth win over the campaign.
