JFCA: Meath Hill qualify

August 19, 2014

Meath Hill's Mark Tully
Meath Hill qualified for the quarter final of the Junior A football championship with a hard earned but merited victory over Moylagh.

The final score of 1 - 7 to 0 - 8 tells its own story as both sides struggled with the fresh cross field breeze.

The Hill were the early runners as they went into a 1 - 1 to 1 point lead in the first twenty minutes, the goal coming after Moylaghs keeper deflected a shot from Mark Tully straight to Ian Malone who had the easiest of tasks finishing to the net. But Moylagh were improved and wrestled control of midfield for the remainder of the half. They pulled the lead down to 1 - 3 to 0 - 3 with Willie McGrath and Dan Growney to the fore.

The 2nd half continued as the first with both sides giving their all but not managing to dominate. It was nip and tuck all the way with. Moylagh controlled the early stages of the second half pulling themselves level and then going a point ahead but the Hill responded well and scored the last 3 points of the game to run out winners, one of those late scores was a brilliant effort from Jason Yorke after a 60 yard run which put Meath Hill a point ahead in the dying moments.

A good result with a performance that can be improved upon was the post mortem. Best for the Hill were Benny Kieran, Martin Tully, Jason Yorke and Mark Tully. They will also hope for a speedy recovery for Keith Ginnity who suffered a suspected broken bone in his hand.
