Oisin Reilly Gaeil Colmcille gets away from Daragh Smyth Navan O'Mahonys.
Gaeil Colmcille 0-10
Navan O Mahoneys 0-10

A last second point by half forward Alan Hickey gave Gaeil Colmcille a deserving draw in this tough championship encounter played in sunny but blustery Kilmaihamwood on Sunday afternoon.

After a disappointing league campaign, the Gaeils certainly gave a outstanding performance from start to finish and could feel a little unlucky not to come away with a victory. Shane McAnarney's men were ranked outsiders but they had other ideas despite missing many key players through injury. The Kells men set up a very good defensive structure which O'Mahonys found very difficult to break down and were guilty of turning over the ball on several occasions in both halves. The Gaeils led by 0-03 to 0-02 after twenty minute with points coming from Brian Hanlon (0-02) Seamus Mattimoe (0-01) and the last point of the half came from Gaeil Colmcille full forward Seamus Mattimoe, who had moved out the field and used his pace to great effect.

In the second half O'Mahonys got off the mark with two points and put their noses in front for the first time after seven minutes but Kells responded kicking the next four points from Mattimoe, Liam Ferguson and Brian Hanlon with 0-02, to make it 0-08 to 0-05 and a major shock was on the cards going into the final quarter. O'Mahonys were not done yet however, and responded to level up matters at 0-08 apiece. An Aaron Browne point for Kells was followed up by back to back points from the O'Mahonys men which left the score at 0-10 points to 0-09 and the Navan side then looked as if they would hold on for a narrow victory but from the very last attack, Alan Hickey got his first point of the match and the last score of the game giving Gaeil Colmcille a well-deserved share of the spoils leaving it all to play for in the final round of the group stages.
