Martin Reilly gains possession for Dunshaughlin against Kilbride in the JFC game at Curraha
Dunshaughlin 0-16
Kilbride 0-16
Round 5 of the Meath JFC seen the last round being played Friday evening in Curraha on an Autumn's evening perfect for football.
Kilbride were almost off to a dream start with them nearly scoring a goal after 2 minutes but Dunshaughlin corner back JJ McDonnell fresh from a recent bare foot pilgrimage in Croagh Patrick was turning water into wine and loaves into fishes had other ideas and was performing miracles at the back for the black and amber by somehow keeping the ball from finding the back of the net.
Dunshaughlin from this point on were enjoying some nice periods of possession and were 3 points in front thanks to some sharp shooting from long range from the ever reliable Marty Reilly with Oisin Foley and Shane Gallogly also chipping in to raise the white flag.
With all this possession Dunshaughlin were guilty of missing some very score able points and again things could have worse for them when Kilbride came close to scoring another goal but this time thankfully for the black and amber the goal attempt came back off the post. A Kilbride free and a fine point from Shane Gallogly kept things interesting before Dunshaughlin finished the half strongly with a brace from Martin Reilly to go in at half time 3 points in front.
Dunshaughlin's own version of the dukes of hazzard James Rattigan and Danny Geraghty who were recently obliged by work commitments and unable to train found themselves in unfamiliar territory by not starting the game but both showed their professionalism by coming on for the black and amber as the game unfolded. with Club top scorer James Rattigan laying down a marker in the first minute of the second half with a trade mark score to now have Dunshaughlin 4 n front.
Kilbride responded well to this with a point before the most improved player in the club Gary 'the hitman' Flanagan went on a scoring crusade with pin point accuracy that Lee Harvey Oswlad himself would take pride in with Flanagan scoring two fantastic points to have Dunshaughlin 5 points to the good. Football though is a funny old game and Kilbride dug deep to score a magnificent 7 points in a row to now have them remarkably leading by 2 points Kilbrides scoring dominance was finally broken by a James Rattigan point as the momentum now seemed to be shifting back to Dunshaughlin as David McMahon and Niall Kelly now got in on the scoring to put Dunshaughlin back in front.
With 3 minutes to go it was all to play for with none of the supporters going nowhere with once more the scoreboard changing to have Kilbride now in front and looking good to hang on but Dunshaughlin were handed a life line on the 58th minute with them being awarded a free at least 75 meters out the pitch. With Niall 'sweets' Kelly playing his last ever game for Dunshaughlin it seemed fitting that it was him who player manager Martin Reilly entrusted the responsibility to convert the free with Kelly unleashing a left footed Meteor that started off way off track heading towards a good friend of the club in Dunboyne, started coming in near Swans and eventually went over the bar to put Dunshaughlin in front by a point.
However some quick thinking by Kilbride seen a quick kick out being worked up the field to have them level the game with time almost up. In the end both teams will feel they could have won but a draw was a fair result with David Dunne, Oisin Foley, Danny Geraghty, Martin Reilly and JJ McDonell showing well for Dunshaughlin.
