AFL4: Curraha keep hopes alive

July 27, 2014

Curraha's Gavin Coyle
Curraha 0-16
Clonard 0-12

Curraha made the long journey to Clonard on Thursday night worthwhile as they came away with the two points on offer and still the slightest chance of making the league final if results go their way on the last day of the season.

Nothing was going to be easy for Curraha and they played some great stuff in the opening half to lead by two on a scoreline of 09 - 07 and this may have been more only for mistakes in their defence along with some silly fouls. Three points from Gavin Coyle and Naill Moriarty along with points from Andrew Coyle and Simon McDermott ensured Curraha were going to lead at the break.

Clonard took Curraha by storm at the start of the second half when they score five unanswered points but Curraha found their feet around the middle with Locky Keogh and Phelim Dowling starting to get on the ball which gave the platform for Coyle, Brian Cosgrave and Andrew Coyle to draw the teams level. Clonard found it very hard then to get back into the game as Curraha kicked on from the back with some good defending from Dowling and PJ McMahon while Danny Battersby kicked two late points to ensure Curraha would keep their slim hopes of making the league final alive.

Best for Curraha were Dowling, Coyle, McMahon and Keogh while it was also good to see the six starting forwards get on the scoreboard.
