JFC D: Drumconrath edged by Longwood

July 18, 2014

Drumconrath's Leighton Irwin
Longwood 1-11
Drumconrath 3-3

Drumconrath's push for glory at Junior D level finally ran out of steam in Walterstown on Thursday evening when a better drilled Longwood team who seemed in the comfort zone for most of the game until the last quarter when two Patrick Farrelly goals made for a frantic finish.

Padraig McMahon got the scoreboard working after 2 minutes but in truth Longwood dominated most of the 1st half as Paddy Reilly's point on 22 minutes was Drumconrath's on;y only score as Longwood where up by 8 points at the break 1-7 to 0-2.

1-1 from Leighton Irwin lifted Drumconrath's hearts somewhat in the 1st six minutes of the 2nd half as Drums tried to get a foot hold. Three Longwood points between the 40th and 44th minutes gave the South Meath lads a bit of breathing space that was to count at the end of the hour.

Farrelly sprang into action and hammered home 2 goals on 46 and 55 minutes Longwood managed a point in between. The goals had Drums within touching distance but neither side scored again as Longwood won by 2 in the end.

Padraig McMahon was Drumconrath's best player along with David Hickey and keeper Sean Reilly as it is rumored plans are afoot to start training for the 2015 campaign sometime soon.......
